Reuters Insider: High-frequency traders to target swaps next, says Tabb Group

By Chris Clair

The swaps market may be the next target for high-frequency trading, thanks to recent moves towards automation and transparency required by the Dodd-Frank financial regulatory reform law, says Adam Sussman, director of research at Tabb Group.

“… [O]ne of the newer markets they’ve got their eye on is the swaps market,” Sussman says, “which, you know, before Dodd-Frank and before the, you know, global reform of over-the-counter derivatives, they would never have even thought of. But now there’s this move to make these markets more transparent and more automated which is exactly what, you know, the HFTs look for in a market.”
